Task & responsibilities
- Prepare, cook, and present a wide range of dishes in accordance with the restaurant’s menu, recipes, and quality standards
- Ensure all food is prepared efficiently and delivered in a timely manner during service periods
- Maintain consistency in portion size, taste, and presentation across all menu items
- Assist in menu planning, recipe development, and seasonal menu updates in line with customer preferences
- Oversee daily kitchen operations, including preparation schedules and service workflow
- Monitor stock levels, assist with ordering ingredients, and ensure proper storage of food supplies
- Minimise food wastage through effective stock rotation and portion control
- Ensure compliance with Australian food safety standards, hygiene practices, and WHS requirements
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of kitchen workstations, equipment, and food preparation areas
- Train and supervise junior kitchen staff as required to maintain service standards
- Follow correct food handling, temperature control, and allergen management procedures
- Identify and report maintenance or equipment issues to management promptly
- Work cooperatively with front-of-house staff to ensure smooth service and customer satisfaction
- Assist in maintaining kitchen cost controls while upholding food quality standards
- Ensure all kitchen operations align with business policies and operational procedures
Qualification & experience
- Minimum 1 year of relevant work experience as a Chef
- Relevant qualification in commercial cookery (Certificate IV or equivalent preferred)
- Sound knowledge of food preparation techniques and kitchen operations
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Understanding of Australian food safety and hygiene regulations
