Ciao Café and Cakes Queanbeyan is seeking a skilled and motivated Cook to join our kitchen team on a full-time basis. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and cooking high-quality meals while maintaining food safety, kitchen hygiene, and operational efficiency. This role requires the ability to work in a fast-paced café environment while ensuring consistency, taste, and presentation standards.

Task & responsibilities

• Select, prepare and cook a variety of meals according to recipes and menu specifications.
• Prepare ingredients, sauces, fillings and other components required for cooking.
• Ensure food is prepared and presented to a high standard in accordance with café quality expectations.
• Monitor cooking processes and adjust temperatures and seasoning where required.
• Operate and maintain kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
• Store food and ingredients in accordance with food handling and safety guidelines.
• Maintain kitchen cleanliness and hygiene standards in line with health regulations.
• Assist with stock control, food preparation planning and waste minimisation.
• Work collaboratively with kitchen staff to ensure smooth service during busy periods.
• Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety and food safety standards.

Qualification & experience

• Certificate III or IV in Commercial Cookery or a related qualification, or
• At least 3 years of relevant experience working as a Cook in a commercial kitchen.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced café or restaurant environment.
• Strong understanding of food safety and hygiene standards.
• Good teamwork, communication and time management skills.
