Essential Skills for the role:

  • Conveyor belt splicing: Steel Cord; hot and cold splicing and ply fabric belts
  • Refurbishment of belts

Key Skills (Preferred)

  • Basic rigging; lifting and slinging loads
  • Pulley lagging (ceramic; poly and rubber lagging)
  • Rubber lining
  • Overhead Crane Operation

Key Experience

  • General conveyor drive maintenance; belt splicing and rubber lining and lagging
  • Must have on-site experience in a conveyor maintenance crew on a mine / quarry site
  • Must be able to demonstrate a minimum of 4 years’ experience validated with references
  • Must be adept to working under pressure and to tight schedules and deadlines

Your day-to-day responsibilities:

(Occupational Health and Safety Obligations)

  • Maintain a hazard free workplace in accordance with safe work procedures
  • Comply with ALL operating procedures and company safety policies
  • Work to customer safety requirements
  • Complete risk assessments and safety observation sheets as required
  • Ensure use of correct manual handling techniques
  • Effective use and storage of dangerous goods
  • Complete mine site inductions as required
  • Maintain currency for all required mandatory safety training

(Workplace daily tasks)

  • Perform splicing and repairs on all types of conveyor belts including steel cord belts; hot and cold splice belts and ply fabric belts
  • Installing conveyor belts using rigging gear; winches and cranes as required to install conveyor system components
  • Use overhead cranes / chain blocks to move belt in to position to perform mapping inspection and repairs
  • Disassemble conveyor system by removing components of system (guards; scrapers; rollers; stringers and frames) to gain access to belt to perform splice. May involve locking of counter weights (Hydraulics)
  • Perform conveyor belt mapping on pulleys, rollers or belts and report on condition of equipment. Using instruments eg: Durometer to report on belt specifications; density and or thickness. Provide a recommendation on maintenance requirements and extent of splice required
  • Lag and repair pulleys, involving stripping and painting pulleys; using adhesive and solvents to apply appropriate lagging
  • Conduct refurbishment / maintenance of conveyor belts as instructed
  • Reassembling system once repairs are complete, including fitting; cleaning and lubrication of pulleys and system parts
  • Erecting rigging to lift rolls of belt in to position and load on to trucks
  • Conduct yourself in a professional and appropriate manner when on client sites and accommodation
  • Present to work drug and alcohol free (random testing conducted regularly in company and client sites and workshops)
