The Royal Melbourne is one of Victoria’s largest hospitals providing a comprehensive range of health services including acute, sub-acute, general, and specialist medical services throughout inpatient and community-based facilities. We are also a proud part of the world-renowned Melbourne Biomedical Precinct, working in collaboration to advance research for continuous improvement of clinical care.
Unit Description:
The Royal Melbourne Intensive Care Unit is a state-of-the-art 42 bed facility caring for almost 3000 patients per year and is one of the biggest and busiest ICUs in Australia. We are a tertiary unit caring for general and specialty medical and surgical patients, including neuro, cardiac surgery and trauma and provide ICU care for patients at Royal Women’s Hospital and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. The ICU has four pods with a staffing structure that ensures HMOs are well supported. In hours, each pod is staffed by a consultant, registrar and HMO. After hours, each pod is staffed by one ICU registrar, and a single HMO is rostered for the unit overnight, who works with the ICU Senior Registrar to care for patients throughout the unit.
Rotations for this role will be 6 months RMH ICU, 3 months of Emergency Medicine (Wimmera) and a 3-month rotation from general medicine or a range of acute medical specialties. This position is eligible to meet the requirements for Foundation Training for a doctor considering CICM training.
