Tasks & responsibilities

• Assist in developing and implementing budgetary and accounting policies to guide financial decision-making and ensure organisational goals are met.
• Prepare and present financial statements, including Profit and Loss reports and Balance Sheets, to management, shareholders, and regulatory bodies, ensuring compliance with applicable standards.
• Conduct thorough financial investigations, perform audits, and prepare detailed reports. Provide advice on business transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, capital financing, suspected fraud, insolvency, and taxation matters.
• Review and analyse operating costs, income, and expenditure to help optimise the organisation’s financial performance and efficiency.
• Ensure the accuracy and reliability of financial information by providing assurance that financial reports comply with statutory requirements and accounting standards.
• Offer expert financial and taxation advice on business structures, plans, operations, and strategic decision-making to help optimise financial performance.
• Prepare and file taxation returns for individuals and organisations, ensuring compliance with tax laws and regulations.
• Liaise with financial institutions, brokers, and other stakeholders to arrange funds management and ensure liquidity management for operational needs.
• Develop, implement, and maintain accounting systems, while advising on the selection and integration of suitable computer-based accounting software.
• Ensure robust internal control systems are in place to safeguard financial assets, prevent fraud, and ensure financial integrity.
• Evaluate cash flow and assess financial risks related to capital investment projects, providing recommendations for informed decision-making.
• Coordinate with external auditors to facilitate the year-end audit process and ensure the timely submission of financial reports.
• Monitor and manage accounts receivable and payable, ensuring timely collection of receivables and the accurate payment of creditors.
• Maintain records for fixed asset additions, disposals, and depreciation, ensuring proper accounting and reporting of asset-related transactions.
• Ensure accurate and timely payroll processing, including compliance with superannuation obligations and end-of-year tax requirements such as Single Touch Payroll (STP).
• Prepare quarterly Business Activity Statements (BAS) and monthly tax reports, ensuring timely submission and compliance with tax regulations.
• Provide guidance and support in the preparation of financial forecasts and long-term financial planning.

Qualifications & experience

• Tertiary degree in Accounting or related field
• 1-3 years of accounting experience in public practice accounting
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Strong attention to detail and time management
• Working knowledge of accounting software (e.g. Xero, MYOB, Quickbooks)
