The Opportunity:
Join our AI & ML Engineering team as an Intern within Mantel Group’s AI Capability focused on innovative internal initiatives. In this role, you’ll work on innovative projects designed to explore cutting-edge AI/ML solutions. Although you may not have extensive commercial technology experience, any academic research experience or other AI successes will be your strongest assets. This internship is a unique opportunity to work alongside our leaders in the AI/ML space, contribute to internal projects, and gain valuable mentorship that can open up potential career pathways. This is a paid internship position.
Responsibilities:
Collaborate with the AI & ML Engineering team to design and execute an internal project focused on developing an impactful AI solution accelerator for our clients
Develop prototypes and experiment with advanced machine learning algorithms, including Generative AI
Document approach and solution to prepare our senior leaders to demo to clients
Engage with senior team members for technical guidance and mentorship, participating in regular project discussions and reviews
Support the team with ad hoc tasks that advance our understanding of emerging AI/ML methods and tools
Who You Are:
A current PhD, postgraduate, or final-year undergraduate student based in Melbourne with a strong academic record and notable research or other achievements
You have a proven track record using AI & ML — whether through research, work experience, or your own personal-projects
Proficient in programming with Python (or a comparable language) and familiar with machine learning libraries (such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Scikit-Learn)
Basic familiarity with a range of cloud tech stacks and some experience deploying machine learning models
Effective communicator and critical thinker with excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to articulate complex technical ideas clearly
While you may not have commercial technology experience yet, your research background and ability to mobilise innovative solutions with a focus on end users are highly valued
