As an Analyst (Technology), you will play a critical role in supporting ASIC's supervision of technology risks and changes across regulated entities, including exchanges, clearing and settlement facilities, market participants, and intermediaries. Working within the Market Infrastructure team and the wider Markets Group, you will monitor key technology developments, strengthen ASIC's ability to identify and respond to emerging risks, and engage with senior industry stakeholders to ensure effective risk management practices.

The team   

ASIC's Markets Group is responsible for ensuring investors have the trust and confidence to invest in Australia's financial markets and ensuring all Market participants, infrastructure providers and gatekeepers operate with integrity, resilience, and transparency. This is done by managing the end-to-end process for regulating markets including supervision, triage, investigation, and enforcement. The Markets Group also provides regulatory advice, considers applications and engages with stakeholders pertaining to the regulation of markets.

Within the Markets Group, Market Infrastructure is responsible for authorising and supervising all financial market infrastructure operators in Australia. The operators include listing venues, trading venues, post-trade (clearing and settlement facilities) venues, trade repositories, credit rating agencies, and benchmark administrators. It also leads regulatory policy work that impacts financial market infrastructure operators through a newly formed Strategic Initiatives team and the Supervisory Cyber and Operational Resilience Centre (SCORC) designed to support all of ASIC's supervisory business.

The role 

As an Analyst (Technology), you will:

  • Support ASIC's supervision of technology risks and changes at regulated entities, including exchanges, clearing and settlement facilities, market participants, and intermediaries.
  • Engage with senior leaders at regulated entities to understand their technology change programs and assess their risk management strategies.
  • Inform ASIC's Commission and senior executives on technology risks, providing insights on the progress of major technology programs and emerging risks.
  • Assist supervisors across the Markets Group in identifying and responding to emerging technology risks.
  • Contribute to the supervision of the largest market infrastructure entities, assessing their governance structures and risk management effectiveness.
  • Develop and maintain key relationships with stakeholders to discuss industry and regulatory issues, encouraging improved industry practices.

About you  

You hold a relevant tertiary qualification and have knowledge and experience in contemporary software development practices, software testing, deployment, and cybersecurity. You have a strong understanding of risk management practices in large-scale technology projects and platforms, with experience in relevant roles at licensed entities, technology firms, or regulatory bodies. You are familiar with supervisory approaches and proactive strategies for identifying and monitoring key risks in a regulatory environment.

You have excellent analytical, investigative, and research skills, including experience with data analysis and presentation. Your strong business writing and verbal communication skills allow you to present information clearly to diverse audiences, including senior stakeholders. You are confident in engaging with others, participating in challenging discussions, and asking probing questions. Your ability to navigate complex, ambiguous issues calmly and logically enables you to contribute effectively in a fast-paced regulatory environment.
