Key Responsibilities:
As an Apiarist/Beekeeper, your duties will include:

  • Managing and maintaining healthy bee colonies, including hive assembly, inspection, and pest/disease management.
  • Breeding and raising queen bees and conducting hive splitting to enhance bee populations.
  • Harvesting, extracting, and processing honey and other bee products like beeswax, propolis, and royal jelly.
  • Coordinating and providing pollination services, including hive relocation across NSW, Queensland, and Victoria.
  • Cleaning, repairing, and maintaining apiary equipment and ensuring facilities are well-organized.
  • Implementing biosecurity measures to prevent and manage pests and diseases.
  • Migrating hives seasonally to optimize production and pollination services.
  • Maintaining accurate records of hive activities, honey yields, and pest treatments.
  • Training and mentoring new or seasonal staff, and educating clients on sustainable beekeeping practices.

Qualification & Experience

Skills and Qualifications:
To be successful in this role, you must have:

  • Minimum Qualifications:
    • At least a Certificate III in Beekeeping or a related field with up to 2 years of experience in apiculture.
    • Alternatively, a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience in beekeeping will substitute for formal qualifications.
  • Essential Skills:
    • Proficiency in hive management, honey production, and pest and disease control.
    • Strong physical fitness and the ability to work in varied weather conditions.
    • A solid understanding of biosecurity regulations and best practices in apiculture.
    • Excellent organizational and record-keeping skills.
    • A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel extensively across states.
    • Strong communication skills for training and collaboration within a team environment.
