Work and gain experience in this 3-year temporary, full-time position as an Apprentice Horticulturist while you study to complete a Certificate III in Parks and Gardens and work alongside passionate and experienced Horticulturists.

At City Parklands, a wholly owned subsidiary of Brisbane City Council, we are passionate about parks, public places and people and we deliver integrated place management for Roma Street Parkland, South Bank Parklands, Victoria Park/Barrambin, Anzac Square, Post Office Square and Newstead House on behalf of Brisbane City Council and the Queensland Government. As the trusted custodians of these premier parklands and precincts, we acknowledge the responsibility to manage, enhance and enliven these beautiful places effectively and efficiently.

The Apprenticeship Program involves:

  • Working and gaining experience across 3 parklands, while studying to complete a Certificate III in Parks and Gardens
  • 3 years in-house practical training
  • Working primarily outdoors, alongside our skilled horticulturists, your hands-on role will involve manual horticultural work such as:
  1. Pruning, planting and protection of trees and shrubs, and special garden displays;
  2. Plant identification
  3. Control of weeds, pests and diseases
  4. Operating and maintaining a range of equipment and motorised machinery
  5. Obtaining industry licenses for specialised machinery and certificates as part of the industry requirements.

Key Requirements for the position:

  • You will be an enthusiastic and committed individual with a demonstrated interest in gardening and passion for horticulture
  • Be physically fit and able to pass a pre-employment medical assessment
  • Hold at least a provisional class C drivers licence
  • Completed year 10, Maths and English
