The Fraud Investigation Branch has exciting upcoming opportunities for APS 6 Forensic Accountants (General Stream and Professional Stream).

The Division drives the Agency’s integrity response and capability uplift as well as the coordination of the whole-of-government multi-agency Fraud Fusion Taskforce (FFT).

Responsibilities include but not limit to (General and Professional Stream):

  • Undertake Complex Work: Perform tasks and offer detailed technical, professional, policy, operational support and advice to key stakeholders in relation to complex problems. Exercise both initiative and judgment to interpret legislation and policy, in the application of practices and procedures to achieve outcomes. Complete witness statements for investigations and conduct aspects of forensic accounting under guidance for serious and complex fraud investigation cases.
  • Financial Intelligence and Investigation Support: Utilize a Certificate IV in Government (Investigations) or its equivalent to support financial intelligence and investigative outputs and outcomes. Gather, examine, evaluate and interpret qualitative and quantitative data, presenting findings clearly.
  • Information Management, Planning and Organising: Use and maintain information databases and other  analytical tools for analysis, data extraction and manipulation for reporting tasks. Identify problems or issues and establish 
    treatments to mitigate them. Assist in the development and delivery of projects, ensuring alignment with organisational goals.
  • Coaching and Building Talent: Support and mentor staff, providing coaching and development opportunities to build financial knowledge and capability.
  • Decision-Making and Quality Assurance: Make decisions based on regulations or the agency’s operating instructions and procedures. Coordinate and perform quality assurance and data validation activities. Provide accurate and specialized advice ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and policy frameworks.
  • Limited Direction: Work under limited direction, guided by policies, accepted standards, and precedents. Exercise appropriate delegations in accordance with legislation and guidelines. Implement work plans, set tasks and priorities, and manage workflow.
Eligibility

To be eligible to occupy this position under the general job stream you must have a relevant Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business, and be working towards obtaining your membership with Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA), Certified Practising Accountants (CPA) or other equivalent professional finance bodies (or holding equivalent finance related post graduate qualifications).

To be eligible to occupy this position under the professional job stream, you are required to perform certain duties where the CEO decides your skills, qualifications and experience are essential or appropriate for entry. You must possess relevant academic qualifications with membership of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA), Certified Practising Accountants (CPA) or other equivalent professional finance bodies (or holding equivalent finance related post graduate qualifications); together with extensive direct finance experience performing and delivering complex financial and governance outcomes.

While this role is ideally performed from Deakin, ACT, Surry Hills, NSW, Brisbane, QLD, Adelaide, SA. remote working arrangements may be considered. We intend to fill this role in an ongoing capacity, however non-ongoing roles up to 12 months with the possibility of extension up to 2 years may be offered. 

Successful candidates will be required to undergo a pre-employment National Police History check, Worker Screening check and/or Working with Children Check (where required) and provide evidence of Australian Citizenship.
