The Role
APS 6 ICT Security Specialist is accountable under broad direction to perform and achieve complex information security work within an integrated workforce. They are accountable to ensure they have knowledge of and compliance with legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence’s mission and policy requirements.
An APS 6 ICT Security Specialist will work independently with the opportunity for reasonable autonomy and accountability for the achievement of outcomes of their work. They will exercise both initiative and judgement in the interpretation of policy and in the application of practices and procedures. They will provide detailed information security technical, professional and policy advice in relation to complex work and contribute to strategic planning, program and project management and policy development.
An APS 6 ICT Security Specialist may be a team coach or lead a team and be accountable to set work priorities and manage workflows. They are expected to be capable of building team capability through coaching, feedback and developing the quality of work undertaken by others within a work unit. They may exercise the associated people and financial responsibilities to achieve work unit outcomes.
APS 6 ICT Security Specialist will have considerable level of stakeholder engagement and will liaise with stakeholders in relation to complex issues. They will be required to identify, anticipate and respond to stakeholders’ needs and expectations to achieve work unit and Defence outcomes. They will be accountable to contribute towards ongoing self-improvement and professional development.
This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Agreement (DEA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. About our Team
The Joint Electronic Warfare Operational Support Unit (JEWOSU) is Air Force’s Electronic Warfare (EW) centre of excellence, providing EW and Airborne Countermeasures products to maintain the operational relevance of ADF fixed wing aircraft, helicopters, ships and submarines.
The IT Support Section maintains a Secret level network enabling the production of EW Libraries in support of multiple ADF platforms.
The ICT Security Specialist will work with network management and system administrators in the application of security controls that will ensure the attainment of the highest level possible of ICT security and cyber assuredness.
Our Ideal Candidate
This position will suit a person with a passion for ICT security, who has the experience to identify security risks and develop solutions to mitigate those risks.
The ideal candidate will have a flair to convert ICT security and legislative policy into practical applications at the network level.
They will have very strong communications skills, in order to be able to effectively explain the same issue to stakeholders ranging from System Administrators to management without any loss of fidelity.
They will have an affinity to helping promote a culture of maintaining network security records and documentation.
