Building Maintenance and Repairs Officer

Paspaley Pearling Company are currently looking for a Building Maintenance and Repairs Officer to join our team. With a wealth of expertise in luxury jewellery production, Paspaley is renowned for producing the world’s most beautiful south sea pearls. Our pearling operation is positioned amongst some of Australia’s most spectacular coastline and unique marine environments.  

This is a fantastic opportunity for highly dedicated, reliable, and motivated individual to join a multifaceted family-owned business that spans across Pearling, Retail, Pastoral and Properties. The position will be based at one of our pearls farm, working on a 2:1 roster, you will work closely with and report directly to the Farm Manager to coordinate aspects involved with the pearl farm building maintenance and repairs. The ideal candidate will be Darwin based, or willing to relocate to Darwin.

Key duties and responsibilities:

• General maintenance and repair work such as building repairs, fence repairs, and patching / painting 

• Carpentry tasks such as repairing buildings, roofs, fixtures, repairing or replacing doors 

• Plumbing tasks such as fixing leaks, unclogging drains, replacing faucets, fixtures and sinks

• Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with Paspaley’s workplace health and safety policies and procedures

• Other general maintenance tasks and duties as directed by the Farm Manager 

What you need to succeed:

• Strong experience in various repairs and maintenance tasks including carpentry and plumbing

• A positive, proactive and professional manner with the ability to work along side people from different multicultural backgrounds 

• Demonstrated ability to work independently and to a high standard with limited supervision

• Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy and quality work

• Familiarity with tools and equipment commonly used in maintenance, general repairs and grounds maintenance

• Understanding of Workplace Health and Safety practices

• Knowledge of safety protocols and practices to prevent accidents and maintain a safe work environment

• The capacity to undertake manual tasks including heavy lifting and working outdoors for extended periods of time

• Sound level of computer literacy, with the ability to confidently utilise email and other electronic applications

• Must be an Australian citizen to apply or currently hold permanent Australian residency
