THE ROLE:
We are seeking a Casual Yard Hand or a new team member looking to become an entry level loader operator. The role is based at our green waste Public Drop off site in Symonston, ACT. A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle is preferred as no bus routes service the area.
We are looking for an energetic, motivated, and enthusiastic individual with a solid work ethic. Prior experience as a yard hand or loader operator experience in the waste or recycling sector is an advantage, however the main thing we are looking for is someone who has a positive attitude, reliable and can work harmoniously with a diverse range of staff.
This role reports to the Site Manager, with a primary focus on traffic management for residents dropping off items at the facility. You will ensure that the correct items are placed in the appropriate areas, avoiding contamination, and that bulk items are directed to the correct locations for processing.
Our entry level operator position is responsible for;
Loading trucks
Maintaining Plant & Equipment
Performing Pre-Start Checks
Fuelling Machines

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Monitoring green waste drop-offs at our facility
Making bag products and packing bag products.
Cleaning and maintenance of work areas according to workplace and environmental guidelines
Reporting of any machinery/equipment faults immediately
Operating machinery and moving green waste across the site
Experience operating a front-end loader or willing to undertake competence
Reporting hazards and incidents immediately
Effective communication skills; UHF and signalling used on site
Complying with Safe Systems of Work
WE ARE SEARCHING FOR A CANDIDATE WITH THE FOLLOWING ATTRIBUTES:
Valid driver’s Licence
Heavy Vehicle Licence is an advantage but not essential
Experience as a yard hand/labourer is an advantage
Ability to work in a unique environment processing green/organic waste
Initiative to generate ideas and take advantage of opportunities
Physically capable of lifting small items and walking around the site, as required by the role
Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
SHIFT DETAILS:
Monday to Friday 7am to 5pm with every second weekend available.
Position will be available to commence immediately.
