About Nursing Services  

Austin Health Executive comprises of eight Executive Directors reporting directly to the CEO. The Chief Nursing Officer is supported by a senior team who are located across all Austin Health campuses, including: 

  • Director of Nursing, Austin Hospital  
  • Director of Nursing, Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital 
  • Director of Nursing, Royal Talbot Rehabilitation Centre 
  • Director of Nursing, Mental Health 
  • Director, Clinical Education Unit 

The Clinical Education Unit delivers clinical training to the hospital's medical, nursing and allied clinical staff and works closely with university partners and external training colleges. 

About the role 

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), you will provide strategic leadership to ensure the provision of a contemporary nursing and related workforce to support Austin Health’s strategic objectives in delivering outstanding patient care and professional education.  

Operating in a complex, diverse and dynamic environment, you will: 

  • Shape and lead strategic thinking and strategy development at the executive level to drive large scale transformational change to deliver research-based patient care at the highest level, and enhance patient experience, consumer engagement and volunteer services. 
  • Provide strategic leadership and vision for Austin Health's nursing workforce; developing and supporting professional practice, ensuring the workforce is credentialed and competent to undertake their role. 
  • Provide high level strategic and operational advice to executive and directorates on nursing professional needs in line with the organisational strategic priorities. 
  • Develop strategies to build and improve the organisation's patient care capability, viability and reputation as a leading tertiary teaching and research facility. Specifically, this includes an undergraduate and postgraduate education program, professional research programs and relationships with universities. 
  • Work closely with the CEO and executive to achieve specific targets under the relevant Business Plan in terms of budget outcomes, quality and operational performance. 

About you 

You will be someone who has a commitment to Austin Health’s core values, and bring with you: 

  • Previous leadership experience in a large complex health care institution, including a demonstratable track record of leading large-scale change and/or transformation. 
  • Commitment to nursing professional leadership and practice development and research. 
  • A strong track record of delivering outcomes and driving innovation at a senior level with a pro-active approach to fostering multidisciplinary teamwork and cooperation. 
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead and influence others in navigating and resolving complex and sensitive matters. 
  • Demonstrated capacity as an effective leader of the nursing profession and member of the Executive team, stimulate constructive discussions and support colleagues in achieving organisational goals. 
  • Ability to motivate, inspire and develop team members to achieve strategic objectives.
