Are you an experienced CNC Machinist looking for a role that offers unique challenges and diverse projects? Do you have experience in machining parts for mechanical process assemblies and support systems for precision engineered process equipment? My client is a technology commercialisation company whose innovative technology was originally developed at their facility in Sydney.

The Role 
As a CNC Machinist, you’ll work under the direction of the Engineering Manager to produce high quality custom and prototype components from 2D drawings and 3D models. This role offers an opportunity to work on a variety of projects. You will be using both CNC and manual lathe and milling machines, together with other workshop tools and equipment. These components are assembled into high precision systems at their facility.
You will also be responsible for: 
  
  • Identification and recommendation of tooling that is required to complete each job
  • Maintaining a safe and clean environment throughout the workshop and material storage areas
  • Work Health and Safety – reporting of incidents, adherence to policies, safe handling of equipment, routine risk assessments
  
Skills and experience 
Ideally holding a relevant trade certificate or higher with 2 years or more post-qualification experience, or at least 5 years’ experience without, you’ll have: 
  
  • Proficiency in programming and operating CNC lathes and milling machines 
  • Expertise with manual lathes and milling machines to high tolerances 
  • Ability to read and manufacture parts from 2D drawings 
  • Knowledge of using manual measurements tools to achieve tolerances 
  • Practical experience in machining various materials
  • Toolmaking experience (highly desirable) 
  • Broad background knowledge of materials properties, in particular metals, and machining technology (highly desirable) 
  • High attention to detail, with the ability to capture all documented machining operations without reworking 
  • Ability to perform allocated tasks within project deadlines, multi-task and prioritise
  • Ability to anticipate potential problems and contribute to identifying solutions
  • Ability to perform assembly and technician work and tasks other than machining 
  • Effective collaboration and communication skills both verbal and written
  • Ability to work autonomously whilst remaining flexible as a part of the wider team
  • Willingness to learn new skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Excel and Word 
  • Mechanical design experience - desirable
  • Experience with 3D CAD software - desirable
  • Australian national security clearance and experience operating in a classified work environment required
