Position Description:
The purpose of this role is to facilitate community development initiatives and collective solutions within a community to address issues, needs and problems associated with recreation, health, housing, employment, and other welfare matters. A community worker is responsible for engaging with local communities to identify and address social issues, providing support and resources to community members and facilitating programs that promote community well - being and development. This role involves direct interaction with individuals, families, groups to empower them and improve their quality of life.
About the role:
You will leverage your community worker experience to hit the ground running, in this challenging and highly rewarding ECS opportunity. Reporting directly to the NDIS Service Coordinator, you'll collaborate with a vibrant team of ECS professionals, offering world-class support to business unit leaders, team members, and stakeholders. Your role will encompass a diverse range of General Community Worker responsibilities.
Main tasks:
Researching and analysing community issues, needs and problems.
Developing, evaluating, and maintaining community resources and programs.
Evaluating data and writing reports such as submissions requesting funding for continuing programs and new projects
Identifying issues of local need, concerns, and aspirations through community consultation
Organising local sporting, cultural and recreational events, and activities such as community functions, hobby classes, community arts projects and sporting competitions.
Providing support while exploring alternatives with clients who experience difficulties such as martial problems, unemployment, illness, and drug abuse.
Assessing risks and providing intensive short-term crisis counselling for victims of domestic violence, child abuse, disasters, and other crisis
Assisting to establish and administer neighbourhood houses, community groups, employment training programs, and other services.
Liaise with community groups, welfare agencies, government and business regarding community issues
Assess community needs and resources for health, welfare, housing, employment and training
Promote awareness of available resources, facilitates and resources to the local community
Encourage connections and networking within the community
Encourage people to take leadership of community initiatives
Work with community groups to develop and implement long term plans
Help community groups apply for government funding and encourage them to set up partnerships with other organizations such businesses and council
Set up and maintain local community projects and report on their progress

Experience:
Minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar role
Experience writing support letters and case reports to monitor participant progress
Experience in working with persons of Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander or other culturally and Linguistically diverse backgrounds
Experience delivering services to children, young people and adults
Knowledge of continuous quality improvement principles
Knowledge:
Basic Knowledge of computer for documentation
