THE ABRA PROJECT

An exciting opportunity has emerged for an experienced Contracts Manager to join the experienced and collaborative team at Abra Mining Pty Ltd (Administrators Appointed) on a 6 Month Fixed Term Contract.
 
The Abra Mine, located 220 km north of Meekatharra in the Gascoyne region of Western Australia, is one of the world’s cleanest and largest standalone lead-silver projects. The mine produces between 90–100ktpa of lead and 600–800koz of silver per year. With a mine life of 10+ years, Abra has successfully transitioned to steady-state production volumes after completing construction and commissioning in late 2022.
 
THE ROLE
 
Reporting to the Commercial & Site Services Manager, with a dotted line to the Financial Controller, as Abra’s Contracts Manager you will be responsible for ensuring that all contractual agreements are developed, reviewed and implemented effectively and in line with the Company policies and procedures.

The role provides commercial advice to ensure operational efficiency, cost control and compliance with regulatory requirements.
 
As part of this, you will be accountable for:

  • Managing commercial activities, through developing and reviewing contracts for the mining operation and associated projects/services.
  • Managing the end-to-end procurement lifecycle for major contracts, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
  • Developing and implementing sourcing strategies and contract management plans to support operational and capital projects.
  • Monitoring and managing vendor onboarding and compliance, identifying risks and implementing mitigation strategies.
  • Ensuring compliance in accordance with company policies and procedures, industry standards and legal requirements.
  • Negotiating with clients and supplies where applicable.
  • Developing and preparing recommendations for proposed suppliers, ensuring a strategic approach is adopted.
  • Working closely with department managers to establish and maintain quality control and contract schedules.
  • Collaborating with procurement teams to ensure the effective selection of contractors and suppliers.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with contractors and stakeholders to drive cost efficiencies and operational improvements.
  • Developing and maintaining the contracts budget.
  • Conducting financial analysis and reporting on contract expenses, variation and cost savings.
  • Efficiently utilising computerised procurement systems, ensuring integrity and compliance across the business.
In addition, you will:
  • Continuously review the Contractor Management and Procurement processes and procedures to improve efficiencies and cost management.
  • Assist with internal queries.
 
ABOUT YOU
 
You will bring a strong Contractor Management background to this role. Your work ethic will be reliable, consistent, and always with high attention to detail. You will be driven to seek out potential control weaknesses, and continuously improve the Company’s use of Pronto, and the Site’s reporting.
 
You will have:
  • Relevant Tertiary qualifications in either Supply, Business, Commerce, Law, Finance, or related discipline/ experience.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in a similar role within the resources industry.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in sourcing and end to end contract management
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate, manage, and optimise contracts for operational and capital projects.
  • Able to work effectively in a team environment
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
  • Strong English language oral and written communication skills
  • General computer literacy and business software skills
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with others to achieve consensus
  • High level of attention to detail – must be able to work in the detail without losing focus on the overall objective
  • Able to manage multiple tasks/priorities simultaneously, respond to work with urgency, identifying the necessary steps and moving forward through completion within deadlines
  • Experience with Pronto & Redmap (desirable)
