Deck Hand/Host

About the role

As a Deck Hand/Host at Sun Sailing Pty Ltd, you will play a crucial role in delivering unforgettable sailing experiences to our customers. In this casual position, you will be responsible for assisting with the day-to-day operations of our sailing tours, ensuring our guests have a safe and enjoyable time on the water. The role is based in the beautiful Main Beach, QLD 4217 area.

What you'll be doing

• Welcoming and greeting guests, and providing excellent customer service throughout our two hour sailing shared cruises and private charters.

• Assisting with the set-up and launch of the yacht

• Maintaining a safe and secure environment for guests, adhering to all relevant safety protocols

• Providing information about the local area, wildlife, and points of interest during the sailing tour

• Serving refreshments and light snacks to guests, and ensuring their comfort and satisfaction

• Taking photos and videos of guests and sharing at the end of the trip, requesting permission for use on our socials and asking for reviews.

• Participating in the docking and securing of the vessel at the end of the tour

• Ensuring the vessel and equipment are cleaned and ready for the next tour

What we're looking for

• Experience in a customer service or hospitality role, preferably within the tourism or water-based activities industry. Boating experience a distinct advantage.

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage with guests and provide an exceptional experience. People must be your thing. An ease in talking with people is a must as this creates the great relationship we have with our guests leading to fabulous reviews and return customers.

• A passion for sailing/boating, the outdoors, and the local area, with a willingness to share your knowledge and enthusiasm with others

• Basic boat handling and sailing skills, or a willingness to learn

• A friendly, reliable, and safety-conscious approach to work

• Relevant certifications or licenses, such as a Food Handling Certificate or First Aid qualification or a willingness to obtain, would be highly regarded
