Defence School Mentor - Mitchelton State High School, Education

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Defence School Mentor to join our team on a temporary part-time basis. This role is offered at 0.30 FTE and 22 hours per fortnight, until 12 December 2025, unless otherwise determined.

About the Role

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Support and assist young people from Defence families to integrate into the school community to facilitate a supportive educational environment for them.
• Create a greater and ongoing awareness within the school community of the needs of young people from Defence families.
• Assist Defence parents and students to become familiar with the school and its facilities and raise awareness of their unique needs within the school community.
• Work with individuals, groups, families and stakeholders to develop and implement programs to enable Defence students to feel welcome and included within the school community.

About You

The right candidate will be able to:

• Makes insightful decisions - makes considered, ethical and courageous decisions based on insight into the broader context.
• Understand the complexities and challenges defence students face with mobile lifestyles, frequent relocations, and the emotional impacts of parental deployment, and provide tailored support to help them stay connected, resilient, and engaged in their education.
