The Grovedale Hotel is looking for experienced Demi Chef who will be required to perform general or specialised cooking, butchering, baking or pastry cooking duties and/or supervise and trains other cooks and kitchen employees.

The Grovedale Hotel is an associated entity and part of the three local hotels under the ownership of the ‘Taylor Group’ thus providing an opportunity to work and progress your career across venues and kitchens including the Barwon Heads Hotel and Torquay Hotel in Victoria.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • As a Demi Chef working under the supervision of the Chef de Partie, you play a vital role in upholding the highest standards of culinary excellence. With a strong commitment to quality and attention to detail, you assist the culinary team in food preparation, cooking, and presentation, ensuring each dish is delivered with precision, consistency, and exceptional craftsmanship.
  • To produce and assist the daily production within the section to deliver exceptional experience to drive repeat business and achieve financial targets. 
  • Create a wide variety of dishes including snacks, entrées and main courses 
  • Maintain food safety records 
  • Oversee that our food is presented to our customers in a timely manner, ensuring freshness and all Food Safety procedures have been followed.
  • Oversee a designated section of the kitchen, such as sauces, vegetables, or desserts, under the guidance of the chef de partie, ensuring that all tasks are completed efficiently and that food items are ready for service.
  • Ensure staff are performing to standard operating procedures and if not, escalate to the responsible manager
  • To actively provide suggestions to the responsible manager
  • To follow company Occupational Health and Safety policies and procedures at all times 
  • To report any unsafe practices or situations to the manager on duty immediately 
  • To adhere to all company policies and procedures at all times. 

Qualifications & experience

  • You have a culinary qualification of Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery 
  • You have 1+ years’ experience in a similar role 
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task
  • Experience supervising staff
  • Demonstrated experience working in a fast-paced environment
  • Is punctual and able to follow instructions
  • Enjoys working as part of a team 
  • Shares a passion for the hospitality industry
