The Role We are seeking a Director of Human Resources to lead the HR function for Sydney Grammar School for the next 12 months. This person will sit on the leadership team and report directly to the Headmaster. The HR Director will lead a team of three, driving and developing workforce strategies across the school. With a strategic focus, this role will prioritise key initiatives to ensure the efficient operation of the HR department while aligning HR strategies with the school’s broader goals.
The successful applicant will: - Implement a strategic approach to HR management that aligns with the school’s overall strategic plan
- Foster a positive industrial relations environment that promotes a strong workplace culture, employee commitment, and engagement
- Work closely with the headmaster to prepare the human resources and headcount budget
- Implement a new employee induction program
- Lead and oversee key HR projects, driving initiatives that enhance workforce strategies, organisational development, and employee engagement.
- Provide guidance to internal stakeholders on performance management
- Manage employee concerns, mediate conflicts, and ensure adherence to employment laws, policies, and organisational procedures
- Ensure that HR Audits are completed, and that Sydney Grammar is meeting all compliance and governance requirements
The ideal candidate will have: - Proven experience in leading and managing an HR function, preferably within an education or school environment
- Strong knowledge and practical experience with Modern Awards (MEA), employment laws, and industrial relations
- Proven experience in handling complex employee relations issues and fostering a positive organisational culture.
- Demonstrated ability to work closely with senior leadership and influence decision-making at the executive level
- Proven leadership experience in managing and mentoring a diverse team of professionals across various functions
