Are you an Electrical Engineer with a passion for power systems design?

Join a specialist team at the forefront of Queensland Rail's High Voltage Systems Engineering (HVSE) located in Brisbane CBD.

Our team plays a critical role in delivering traction power infrastructure by designing and reviewing power systems for both internal Queensland Rail projects and externally delivered capex projects.

From strategic power system modelling to detailed engineering design, we cover primary and secondary systems, protection systems, DC systems, and earthing. With a small team currently of five experienced engineers, this is an exciting opportunity to develop your expertise in a highly collaborative and technically challenging environment.

As an emerging Engineer, you will be guided through a mix of tasks such as:

  • Assisting with power systems design for traction substations and trackside infrastructure.
  • Conduct modelling and calculations under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Review and assess designs from external parties.
  • Engage with stakeholders across design teams, project staff, and operations.
  • Occasionally travel to conduct investigations, commissioning and attend meetings.
  • Work safely, assessing risks and monitoring controls.

About you:

To be a good fit for this role you will bring:

  • A bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, majoring in power systems.
  • Experience specifically within electrical design or modelling.
  • Capability to do engineering calculations and understand complex technical concepts.
  • A proactive and adaptable mindset, eager to learn and develop.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to write clear and concise engineering reports, and also able to convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Collaborative approach with team members and stakeholders and represent design interests effectively.

International qualifications will need to be recognised under the Washington Accord or demonstrated by ‘an entry to practice competently' having been awarded to you by Engineers Australia and accepted by Queensland Rail.
