A day in the life of the Event Manager

Reporting to the Deputy CEO, the Event Manager plays a key role in event design, forward planning of the calendar, delivery and evaluation. Responsibilities include budget tracking, financial reporting, and overseeing all events to ensure seamless execution. The role involves delegating tasks to the event lead and coordinator while providing strategic direction to the team.

On event days, the Event Manager will be on-site, overseeing setup, and ensuring all logistical elements are in place. Acting as the primary contact for suppliers and speakers, they will manage last-minute adjustments, troubleshoot issues, and ensure a smooth event experience from start to finish.

Responsibilities

The Event Manager will support the development and delivery of the IPAA ACT program. They will be an integral part of our dynamic and agile team and will manage and oversee event logistics and activities to support the delivery of a broad range of high-profile professional events to meet member needs.

The Event Manager will establish and develop relationships with key stakeholders, partners and suppliers to facilitate effective management of events and work autonomously at times. They will build team capability and draw on their professional expertise to coach and develop newer and less experienced team members. The events manager may manage or supervise the work of other team members including event coordinators.

The Event Manager will;

· Manage and oversee logistics for all events

· Manage digital event delivery, including management of digital platforms

· Manage event budgets and costings

· Manage the provision of briefing materials and support materials for event speakers

· Manage stakeholder engagement and liaison

· Initiate and manage key relationships with partners and suppliers

· Actively contribute to the design and development of future programs and events

· Coach and develop other team members

· Proactively identify opportunities to improve processes and develop solutions

· Demonstrate our team values (inclusive, trusted, inspirational, professional, agile, connected) in all interactions and activities

Skills required

· Experience successfully managing all aspects of event design and delivery

· Minimum five years events experience

· Highly developed interpersonal and client service skills

· Demonstrated ability to plan, initiate and manage multiple projects concurrently

· Experience managing a team

· Demonstrated high level organisational, coordination and prioritisation skills

· Superior critical thinking and problem-solving skills

· High level IT knowledge including databases, online planning tools and Microsoft suite

· Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills with the ability to effectively synthesise information

· Genuine interest in the public sector

· Ability to professionally represent IPAA with members, clients, partners, and stakeholders

· Tertiary studies or qualifications in event or project management, communication, business or a related field highly desirable

· Experience using Xero, Cvent and CRM’s will be highly regarded
