Tourism Australia is seeking a visionary Executive General Manager – Industry to spearhead strategic engagement with the tourism sector and deliver world-class development programs that enhance the competitiveness and sustainability of Australian tourism. This newly created role is a rare opportunity to lead one of the most dynamic industry portfolios in the country. Reporting to the Managing Director, you’ll champion high-impact programs like the Australian Tourism Exchange (ATE), the Signature Experiences of Australia, and the Aussie Specialist Program, while fostering partnerships that support long-term industry growth. Key ResponsibilitiesLead Australia’s flagship industry trade events – including the planning and delivery of ATE and international showcases.Champion experience development – overseeing the curation of premium tourism offerings across wildlife, Indigenous culture, food and wine, and more.Build industry capability – through global programs like the Aussie Specialist Program and targeted engagement across Youth, Luxury, and Cruise sectors.Foster strong partnerships – with federal and state governments, industry bodies, and tourism businesses to align policy and industry development.Drive strategic growth – ensuring Australia’s tourism offering remains world-class and globally competitive. About You10–15+ years in tourism, destination marketing, or industry leadership roles.Proven success leading strategic programs and stakeholder engagement in complex environments.Deep understanding of Australian and global tourism dynamics, with the ability to influence across government and industry.Commercial acumen, outstanding communication skills, and a passion for sustainable tourism.Experience managing teams, budgets, and cross-functional collaboration at scale.
