Galt Mining Solutions, a growing multi-discipline mining consultancy, is currently seeking Field Assistants to join our team. The successful candidates will either be based at our Galt Discovery Centre in West Leederville or participate in field/mine site-based campaigns at various client projects. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to exciting mining projects and develop your skills within a supportive and dynamic work environment.
Successful candidates will form part of the Galt Mining Solutions Team and be responsible for operating a safe field camp, assisting with day-to-day exploration and drilling operations, logistics management and contributing to the smooth operation of Galt’s processing facility. Adhering to all safety procedures, identifying hazards, and reporting incidents is an integral part of the job, as is respecting and embracing indigenous heritage at our client's projects.
We are looking for proactive members to join our team, who must be willing to stay in remote field camps at various stages of development. This is a casual contract position with the potential for permanency for the right candidate. Attractive, market-based remuneration will be negotiated and will depend on relevant experience.
Role Responsibilities:
1. Maintain a high level of safety on-site; actively contribute to managing a positive safety culture and reporting issues promptly.
2. Perform sampling and sample processing of diamond core and RC drilling; collect and operate Magnetic susceptibility, pXRF and mineralogical equipment.
3. Collect data in the field as required, including GPS, soil sampling, and data entry using automated software systems.
4. Set up and take down field camps; perform camp duties and general maintenance.
5. Assist with program planning and logistics (both remote and warehouse/core shed).
6. Prepare drilling pads; conduct site clean-ups and rehabilitation (monitoring on tablets and Drone footage collection).
7. Perform equipment and vehicle maintenance.
8. Assist with training/mentoring team members with field craft.
9. Collaborate effectively with the exploration and mining teams and assist in day-to-day operations.
Potential Pit Technician Duties:
10. Supporting open pit mining operations by marking out extents of ore, assisting and directing digging the boundaries of gold mineralisation
11. Operate survey equipment to accurately locate points for markup, drilling, and vein mapping.
12. Supporting geological activities, including sample collection and sample dispatch.
13. Monitoring drilling practices to ensure the delivery and collection of an uncontaminated representative sample
Role Requirements:
1. Previous experience in a similar role - minimum 3-5 years.
2. Able to pass a medical examination and drug screen.
3. Possession of a full C-class manual driver's license.
4. Medium Rigid license - highly desirable.
5. 4WD Certificate highly regarded; genuine off-road 4WD experience well regarded.
6. Forklift Ticket - highly desirable
7. Willingness and ability to travel to remote locations and enjoy a small field camp-style setup for regional exploration.
8. Understanding of computers and software packages (i.e. spreadsheets, documents, phone apps).
9. Excellent communication skills, timekeeping, and reliability.
10. Knowledge of sampling systems, including QAQC procedures
