We deliver 28 key services such as childcare, waste collection, parks maintenance, libraries, community facilities and aquatic centres to over 380,000 residents.

The Role

CBCity is seeking a dedicated Fleet and Driver Safety Officer to support the delivery of safe and compliant fleet operations. 

Working within the Fleet Business Unit, this role plays a key part in ensuring adherence to HVNL and Chain of Responsibility (CoR) requirements, while leading fleet and driver safety initiatives, compliance audits, and staff education across Council worksites.

Duties will include but not be limited to:

  • Lead and support Council’s fleet and driver safety compliance in line with HVNL and CoR requirements, including the CoR Management Plan.  
  • Conduct audits, inspections, and risk assessments across Council’s fleet operations, contractors, and worksites to ensure safety and roadworthiness.  
  • Develop and implement systems, policies, and reporting processes to monitor compliance and drive continuous improvement.  
  • Deliver driver inductions, training, and development programs to promote a safe driving culture and reduce incidents.  
  • Investigate vehicle incidents, analyse data, and recommend improvements to minimise risks and enhance performance.  
  • Provide guidance and education across the organisation to ensure legislative compliance and support informed, safe operational practices.  
  • Manage administrative functions and support the delivery of strategic safety initiatives.

You will have

  • HR Driver’s Licence and qualifications as an Automotive Engineer (Light and Heavy).  
  • Extensive experience with heavy and light vehicles in the waste and transportation industries.
  • Strong knowledge of the Heavy Vehicle National Law and Chain of Responsibility (CoR) provisions, with experience managing large fleets and driver compliance.  
  • Skilled in auditing, reporting, and regulatory compliance for fleet operations.  
  • Proficient in driver training, competency assessments, and promoting positive driver culture.  
  • Experienced in fleet and driver safety, incident investigation, and data analysis to support safety improvements.  
  • Familiar with vehicle standards and inspection requirements.  

A degree in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering is not required but would be highly advantageous.

The salary range for this opportunity starts at $101,423 (Grade H, Step 1) + Leaseback Vehicle + 11.5% super. Salary is negotiable dependent on skills and experience.
