Governance Administration Officer (11201000)

1. Position Objectives

The Governance Administration Officer provides administrative and governance support to ensure
the effective functioning of local authorities, committees, and councils. The role ensures
compliance with relevant legislation, policies, and procedures while facilitating efficient
communication and operations within the governance framework.

It is a requirement of this position that the position holder is willing and able to travel and work in
remote communities located within the Barkly Regional Council area; and that the position holder
agrees that this requirement may, from time to time, require the position holder to stay overnight.

2. Key Responsibilities

Administration

  • Respond to inquiries or requests from individuals or groups, ensuring timely and accurate
communication.
  • Maintain accurate records of meetings, decisions, and correspondence.
  • Assist with procurement processes and ensure compliance with guidelines.
  • Carry out other duties as directed by the Manager Governance and Policy.
  • Email and diary management particularly following up on requests/actions from Local Law
Members and Key Stakeholders.
  • Assist the Manager Governance and Policy in task related to meeting statutory
requirements for the organisation.
  • Provide general secretarial, administrative support, preparation of Briefings, Committee and
ordinary meetings, agendas and associates minutes.
  • Assist with governance, compliance, native title, cultural heritage, land and leasing matters.
  • Support the Manager Governance and Policy with the administration of the internal audit
program including the monitoring of implementation of recommendations.
  • Undertake consultative activities required by governance processes or projects.
  • Assist with providing orientation and awareness on governance for new employees and the
council community in general.

Local Authority

  • Assist in maintaining functional working relationships across Barkly Regional Council
communities and Local Authorities.
  • Provide logistical support for Local Authority meetings, including preparing agendas and
distributing minutes.
  • Support the dissemination of Council information, such as demographic profiles and local
support services.
  • Provide support to Local Authority Members on Council policies and legislative
requirements.

Other

  • You will be required to perform your duties in Tennant Creek or elsewhere within the Barkly
Regional Council authority area as reasonably directed by the Council.

5. Wages and Allowances

Classification: Level 4 Pay Point 1

Barkly Regional Council Enterprise Agreement 2023

Status: Full-Time Permanent (38 hours per week)

Annual Salary: $61,914.46 per annum ($2,381.33 gross per fortnight)

Tennant Creek Zone Allowance $1.8900 per hour

11.5%

The supervisor will set a five-day roster that equals a 38-hour week,
which is within the span of ordinary hours of work; currently 6:00 AM to
6:00 PM, Monday to Friday.

7. Essential Criteria – Skill, Experience, and Qualifications

1. Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal Culture and Aboriginal issues.

2. Demonstrated ability to manage and coordinate meetings.

3. Ability and willingness to travel to remote communities.

4. Understanding of relevant legislation, policies, and procedures and understanding of Work
Health and Safety (WHS).

5. Current Drivers Licence.

6. Current National Police Criminal Check (within the last 3 months).

7. Current Northern Territory Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card).

8. Desirable Criteria - Skill, Experience, and Qualifications

1. Experience working in remote communities and working with Indigenous people.

2. 4WD Training and experience preferred.
