About the Role đIn this newly created position, The In-House Legal Counsel will be responsible for supporting X-Teamâs legal operations across multiple jurisdictions, ensuring compliance, managing commercial agreements, and enabling business decision-making with practical, risk-balanced legal advice. This role will be tactical and hands-on and is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys executing legal work at every level.
đ Location: 100% Remote
âł Hours: Part-Time (22.8 hours/week), with some flexibility to collaborate across global time zones
âď¸ Travel: Occasional domestic and international travel
Key Responsibilities đŻ
Draft, review, and negotiate client MSAs, NDAs, partnership agreements, contractor agreements, and service terms
Conduct or support legal research and analysis on relevant laws
Advise internal teams (Sales, Finance, HR, Talent Acquisition) on day-to-day legal matters
Build and maintain internal contract templates and legal processes
Manage relationships with external legal advisors, including litigation and dispute resolution support
Monitor and advise on emerging legal and regulatory risks
Support compliance efforts across global markets (employment classification, GDPR/CCPA, IP, etc.)
Advise on contractor risk and other operational considerations across jurisdictions
Collaborate with leadership to ensure legal risks are factored into business decisions
Provide legal support for M&A activity, including due diligence and deal documentation
Ensure timely and accurate execution of legal requests and documents
Participate in process improvement efforts within finance, ops, and compliance
Track and report legal risk exposure to the CFO and senior leadership
Reports to: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Team Structure: No direct reports, but strong cross-functional collaboration
Technical Skills & Experience:
Minimum 7 years of post-admission experience in commercial and corporate law
Admitted to practise in Australia; multiple legal qualifications highly desired
Demonstrated experience managing and negotiating commercial contracts
Exposure to employment law and international classification frameworks is desirable
Experience supporting M&A transactions, due diligence, and legal documentation
Ability to provide legal advice across jurisdictions and to non-legal stakeholders
Skilled at developing and managing scalable legal infrastructure
Proven ability to manage external legal counsel and dispute resolution processes
Excellent legal research and interpretation capabilities
Familiarity with remote-first and high-growth business environments
Able to prioritise and manage a high volume of concurrent legal work
