Exciting opportunity to join the second largest municipality in Melbourne’s metropolitan west. Located about 20 kms from the central business district, Brimbank City Council is culturally diverse.

We are currently seeking Casual Librarians (band 5) to temporarily join our team across Brimbank Libraries.


About Brimbank Libraries

Brimbank Libraries is a dynamic public library service in Melbourne’s western suburbs delivering a range of services and programs to the community to support lifelong learning, literacy and community development.

Libraries are based at Deer Park, Keilor, St Albans, Sunshine and Sydenham.

Our casual staff team provides proactive excellent customer service to all library users.


About the role

  • Work with a great team of staff who are committed to providing exceptional services to our community.
  • Your responsibilities include providing face to face customer service responding to customer needs in a timely manner. This can range from information queries, using technology and wanting a great book to read!
  • You may also be required to act as the Officer in charge for a rostered shift. As the Officer in Charge, you would take responsibility for either managing any issues that arise or supporting staff who are dealing with issues while delivering customer service.
  • Hours are worked on an as needs basis backfilling staff absences. You may work at any of our five libraries across seven days per week including evening shifts.


About You

  • This is a perfect opportunity for a new librarianship graduate to spend time in a public library environment building your skills and experience as you start in your career as a librarian or for an experience librarian looking for temporary work. You will also be available to work across library opening hours.
  • Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree in Librarianship. Experience in other environments transferrable into a library setting are ideal.
