Our client specialises in rotational engineering components, rotational engineering workshop and site services, reliability services along with technical design and failure analysis engineering. As a leading supplier and service provider to the industrial, mining, food & beverage and resources industries in Australia.

About the role:

The Manual Machinist role will see the prospective employee operating a number of different manual mills & lathes as required to produce parts within a job shop environment. This will also include occasional assistance and tutoring of a mature age apprentice currently in this section as applicable.

  • Parts are primarily steel based, but occasionally different materials such as bronze or nylon do come through.
  • Use of overhead crane to load and unload material/stock from machines.
  • Interpreting engineering drawings, choosing and setting tooling, adjusting speeds and feeds.
  • Measuring and checking of parts to drawing specifications.
  • This role is ongoing casual, 7.30am to 4:30pm, Monday to Thursday, and 7am to 1:30pm on Friday.
  • Overtime will sometimes be available as demand requires.
  • CNC machine experience is of benefit, but not required.

Required Qualities:

  • Recent experience in a heavy industrial environment is essential
  • Manufacturing precision components on manual mills and lathes, mill sizes range from relatively small 400cm beds, and lathes from ~100cm lengths to 800cm between centres. Experience on small & large machines is well regarded.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings & schematics, and detailed inspection
  • Understand tool selection, setting and manufacturing methods. Some setups can be relatively tricky, experience with difficult setups well regarded, experience in assisting other machinists with setups also extremely well regarded.
  • Proficient in the use and calibration of measuring equipment.
  • Energetic 'Can do' attitude.
  • Work well in a team environment and be able to follow direction.
  • Strong attention to detail and safety.
  • Current or able to obtain a National Police Clearance.

Desirable Qualities:

  • Current Forklift ticket
  • Manual drivers license
  • Experience training apprentices is advantageous.
  • Immediate start available
