Currently, there are around 4.3 million Australians with a disability. The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) implements the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), which is one of the biggest social reforms in the country since Medicare. As an Agency, we support more than 600,000 participants with a significant and permanent disability, and the families and carers of those living with disability. For many Australians, this will be the first time they receive the disability support they need. The NDIA is designed to enhance the quality of life and increase economic and social participation for people with disability and will mean a peace of mind for every Australian. 

A new role awaits

The National Disability and Insurance Agency (NDIA) is seeking candidates to fill EL2 Director Strategy vacancies.

The EL2 Director Strategy is accountable under broad direction to undertake work with a high level of complexity that has strategic, political and operational significance. 

The position is an important team leadership position within the NDIA and will have delegated authority and responsibility to resolve issues and risks across wide-ranging activities of substantial depth involving significant detail. The role is required to provide leadership, control, planning, resource management, performance management and decision making for the team membership and assigned Contractors working within the work area.

The EL2 Director Strategy will be responsible for influencing and developing strategy, policies, priorities and operational practices. The role will be required to coordinate and assume responsibility for highly complex or sensitive projects and work programs aimed at achieving the NDIA’s mission to ‘build a world leading National Disability Insurance Scheme’.

Duties include but not limited to:

• Leading and developing structured insights and recommendations for strategic projects. 
• Leading and developing fact based quantitative and qualitative analysis including complex modelling in Microsoft Excel. 
• Leading and creating materials for senior internal and external stakeholders, including the Minister, Board and Executive Leadership Team to communicate perspectives, recommendations and implications for the Agency. 
• Presenting recommendations and facilitating workshops and discussions with a range of Agency stakeholders and senior leadership. 
• Leading the development of action plans and ensuring stakeholder alignment to enable successful implementation.
• Leading the development of content to embed change, including authorship of policy papers and guidance materials. 
• Collaborating with and supporting business areas to structure problems, inform options and drive solutions and Agency-wide priorities

Leadership and Accountability

• Advanced specialist, professional and/or management knowledge and corresponding understanding of related principles, theories, concepts and practices. 
• Responsible for providing a strategic level of expertise, providing professional and technical or policy advice to produce effective operations.
• Provide leadership in the development of action plans and lead stakeholder alignment to enable successful implementation.

Project Management

• Provide project accountability and lead projects end to end.
• Demonstrate advanced project management and leadership skills to manage complex and challenging projects.
• Have strong understanding of overall project purpose and status. Identify and effectively manage risk and issues.
• Engage and manage key stakeholders. 

Management Diversity and Span

• Responsible for providing direction to staff and developing staff capabilities to ensure optimum team performance and productivity. 
• Required to bring a broader perspective to the team, encouraging the team to focus on different and innovative ways of meeting business objectives.

Job Context and Environment

• Provide information, analysis and authoritative recommendations to support decision making.
• Provide strategic advice, problem solving and issues management for internal and external stakeholders.
• Have a strong understanding and familiarity of key agency systems and processes.
• Understand Agency and branch priorities, any well-known project interdependencies, and the broader disability sector.

Independence and Decision-Making

• Operates under broad direction and influences the development of policy, procedures and guidelines. 
• Actions of the role may have significant impact on the day-to-day operations of the work area and other parts of the agency, and/or a direct and significant impact on the outcome of a program or major project for the agency.

While this role is ideally performed from Surry Hills NSW, Adelaide SA, Geelong and Richmond VIC, remote working arrangements may be considered. We intend to fill this role in an ongoing capacity, however non-ongoing roles up to 12 months with the possibility of extension up to 2 years may be offered. 

Successful candidates will be required to undergo a pre-employment National Police History check, Worker Screening check and/or Working with Children Check (where required) and provide evidence of Australian Citizenship.
