What you'll be doing
As part of the Nursing leadership team, the General Medicine Nurse Manager will coordinate and manage the delivery of nursing services and service improvements within the medical stream; with a culture that promotes the CORE values of NSW Health.
 
The Nurse Manager will provide guidance and support to ensure there is focus on service development and appropriate oversights of practices, trends and indicators. Ongoing assessment and improvement in operational processes and clinical outcomes is an inherent responsibility of this position.
 
The Nurse Manager will develop an operation plan for the nursing service, identify and actively seek to develop a staffing profile reflective of the service needs and develop and manage a nursing budget within the medical stream.  The Nurse Manager will be involved in the provision of the strategic, operational direction and services at a hospital, Network and at a State-wide level.  This position will work with the SCHN Executive, Director of Nursing and Clinical Steam Directors to inform and response to State and National policies.  The role will undertake planning, implementation and monitoring and evaluation of performance within the portfolio for the individual staff and the portfolio team. 
 
The Nurse Manager reports professionally to the Director of Nursing, and operationally works in collaboration with the Network Medical Stream Director and the Clinical Operations Directorate. This position provides direct line management of the general medical & isolation ward and Neurology unit, as well as professional oversight to other nursing positions within the medical stream (eg CNCs, NP, CNS2).  This position works closely with Heads of Departments, Nurse Managers, and Nursing Unit Managers to ensure safe, effective, and ethical care is maintained. The Nurse Manager will provide leadership, mentorship, role modelling and support in the achievement of excellence in clinical practice; inspire, motivate and support nurses to reach their full potential through identifying, developing and facilitating a range of strategies to ensure they have the knowledge and skills required to undertake their roles and deliver quality care. 
 
The Nurse Manager is self-directed and will utilise a range of communication strategies to foster shared decision making, responsibility and accountability.
  1. Current authority to practice as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  2. Relevant postgraduate tertiary qualifications (or evidence of working towards the same) and nursing leadership and management experience.
  3. Demonstrated ability to develop, direct and lead a team to achieve organisational objectives.
  4. Demonstrated ability to function effectively as part of a senior management team and to collaborate with other health professionals and disciplines in the management of health care services
  5. Demonstrated ability to manage conflicting priorities and meet deadlines in an environment of high volume/ pressure.
  6. Demonstrated high level communication and negotiation skills.
  7. Demonstrated experience in change management, negotiating competing interests and conflict resolution skills.
  8. Demonstrated ability to manage resources effectively within designated timeframes and budgets.
