Primary objective
Contribute to effective operational performance within the Joint Emergency Services Communications Centre via service delivery needs,
standards and business objectives. The JESCC centrally manages emergency communications across the Northern Territory, managing
calls for police, fire, and emergency services, and ensuring efficient dispatch and response to emergencies.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Assist the JESCC Superintendent with the management of employee performance evaluation; service standards; quality assurance;
governance and human resource management to meet business objectives.
2. Provide ongoing leadership and management support, including the development and implementation of rosters and plans to achieve
desired performance outcomes and standards, whilst complying with employment terms and conditions.
3. Analyse, evaluate and report on JESCC performance and take remedial action to mitigate any issues and risks identified.
4. Develop and maintain productive relationships with a variety of stakeholders, including the NT Fire, Emergency Services and St Johns
Ambulance Service as well as public sector agencies.
5. Provide leadership, expertise and support for the development, implementation and review of operational policies, procedures,
strategies and projects relating to the JESCC.
6. Manage workplace health and safety requirements, including actions to optimise the awareness, preparedness, safety, protection,
injury prevention, and general health and wellbeing of staff.
7. Develop and implement a training strategy, including the maintenance of training materials, and compliance with training and
accreditation requirements such as mandatory annual qualifications in Operational Safety, Tactics training.
8. Provide financial and procurement management support to the JESCC Superintendent, including liaising with Finance and contributing
to oversight of the JESCC budget and expenditure.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Highly developed leadership skills with demonstrated capabilities and experience in managing the complex and diverse coordination
of a demanding operations centre environment.
2. Detailed knowledge and understanding of contemporary issues affecting caller engagement and the delivery of emergency services,
and the proven ability to understand and apply relevant business and resource management principles.
3. Demonstrated highly developed communication, negotiation, consultation and collaboration skills with the proven ability to build and
maintain productive relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.
4. Demonstrated ability to contribute to strategic planning and the provision of policy advice, including operational policies, standards
and service improvement initiatives.
5. Proven ability to drive, influence and implement organisational change and service system reforms to ensure that the service delivery
systems are increasingly responsive to needs.
Desirable
1. Understanding of the operational issues and complexities specific to policing and/or call centre management in an emergency services
context.
