The Painting Trades Worker is responsible for preparing surfaces by removing old paint, repairing woodwork, and filling holes and cracks. They apply paints, varnishes, and stains using brushes, rollers, and sprays, and ensure proper surface preparation. The role also involves setting up scaffolding, cleaning work areas, and may include tasks such as hanging wallpaper and repairing glass.

Tasks & responsibilities

•    Install scaffolding and ladders to ensure safe and efficient access to painting areas. Use drop sheets to protect adjacent surfaces from paint splashes.
•    Remove old paint and wallpaper, repair woodwork, fill in holes and cracks, and smooth and seal surfaces to ensure a clean and stable base for new coatings.
•    Choose and mix paints to achieve the desired colors by combining pigments, oils, and appropriate thinning and drying additives.
•    Use brushes, rollers, and sprays to apply paints, varnishes, and stains to various surfaces.
•    Install wallpaper by aligning patterns accurately and trimming edges to fit seamlessly.
•    After completing painting tasks, clean tools and work areas to maintain a tidy and organized workspace.
•    As needed, repair windows and replace glass in both wooden and metal frames.
•    Lay and repair wall and floor tiles, ensuring proper alignment and adhesion.
 

Qualifications & experience

•    High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
•    Experience with specialty finishes or techniques (e.g., faux finishes, murals). 
•    Certification or training in painting or a related field.
•    Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in the painting industry.
•    Proven experience as a painter or in a similar role.
•    Familiarity with various painting techniques, tools, and materials.
•    Ability to work at heights and in various weather conditions.
•    Strong attention to detail and high standards of workmanship.
•    Good physical stamina and manual dexterity.
•    Ability to read and follow instructions and specifications.
•    Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
