Melbourne Pathology is seeking applications for a Genetic Pathologist to join our team of highly qualified scientists at the main laboratory in Collingwood. A full time commitment is preferred, but part-time roles will be considered.

Melbourne Pathology is the premier provider of pathology services in Victoria and an industry leader. We operate as a specialty medical practice, are the oldest private pathology practice in Australia, and are part of the international Sonic Healthcare Group.

Melbourne Pathology has state-of-the-art 24-hour laboratories in Collingwood, Richmond, Box Hill, Geelong, Malvern and Mulgrave, with additional laboratories in Mornington, Footscray, Moe, Bendigo and Ballarat. These laboratories support more than 350 collection centres throughout Melbourne and regional Victoria. We provide a renowned and comprehensive service to more than two million patients each year. Our services reach more than 5,000 private and public hospital beds, specialists and general practitioners throughout Melbourne, regional Victoria and various corporate, industrial and institutional clients. We meet a diverse range of pathology needs, from population-based screening programs to precision medicine, from general practice to specialist outpatient care, and from routine monitoring to complex inpatient care.

Melbourne Pathology has a long-established and growing cytogenetics service. We are looking to expand our provision of genomics in reproductive and cancer care. Our specialist medical practice is part of a nation-wide quality network that offers strong peer support in genomics and cytogenetics from the pathologists and molecular scientists in Sonic’s genetic laboratories in Sydney and Brisbane. The Australian genetic laboratories are also part of an international group of genetic laboratories in Sonic medical practices in the US, UK and Europe.

This appointment represents an opportunity for you to put your mark on the development of a sophisticated genomics laboratory in a city that offers a vibrant culture of clinical research, a great lifestyle and the support of colleagues locally, nationally and internationally.

The preferred candidate will be highly motivated, both pragmatic and innovative, enthusiastic about education both within and beyond the practice, and able to adapt to the changing demands and opportunities in genomics. We are looking for someone with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and a heart for collaboration. As a leading member of our medical practice, the preferred candidate will have the doctor–patient relationship at the centre of every decision.

Applicants will be required to hold the Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia, or equivalent recognised postgraduate medical qualification, and be eligible for registration as a specialist pathologist by AHPRA. Registrars completing fellowship within
6 months may be considered.
