AEMO’s System Design division is responsible for planning the power system in the context of unprecedented transformation. The rapid transition to renewable energy generation and electrification of many sectors (transport, industry etc) has seen sharp rises in proposed transmission and distribution connection projects.

About the role This role is based in AEMO’s Melbourne office. AEMO provides an essential service and actively promotes flexible working arrangements within our team. We have strong team structures, culture, and communication tools in place to ensure all employees remain actively connected with each other and the broader AEMO organisation.

What you will be doing 

• Work across AEMO and VicGrid teams, its stakeholders and the broader energy industry
• Coaching a team of engineers on technical matters relevant to the electricity industry.
• Demonstratable technical experience in establishing transmission infrastructure and transmission interconnectors, including commissioning support and practical completion assessments.
• Develop and lead the delivery of primary and secondary functional specification for connections, network augmentations and interfaces for the existing Victorian transmission system.
• Collaborate in the development of control schemes to manage network congestion and ensure that system security is maintained following contingency events.
• Provide input towards augmentations to the transmission system, i.e. Connection Enquiries.

What you will bring to the role

Education / Certificates

• Relevant tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering
• Registered Professional Engineer (Victoria) preferrable or ability to attain

Experience, Knowledge, and capabilities.

• Knowledge of the energy sector, including the National Electricity Rules (NER) and Victorian transmission connection process.
• Experience in defining technical requirements for power system augmentations including primary plant, secondary plant and special control schemes.
• At least 15 years’ experience in design and delivery of transmission network projects, including technical lead roles.
• Proficient with relevant software packages for electrical analysis such as PSSE.
• Understanding of legal and commercial acumen when providing technical input into connection agreements.
