The Production Manager oversees all aspects of the manufacturing process, ensuring baked goods are produced on time, within budget, and to the highest quality and food safety standards. This leadership role involves coordinating production teams, improving processes, managing inventory, and maintaining compliance with health and safety regulations.
Benefits
Salary: $73,150 to $80,000 plus Super depending on experience
Task & Responsibilities
Production Operations
• Plan, schedule, and manage daily production to meet demand forecasts and delivery timelines.
• Monitor production lines to ensure efficiency, quality, and timely output.
• Oversee mixing, baking, cooling, packaging, and dispatch processes.
• Ensure all production equipment is used effectively and maintained properly.
Team Leadership
• Supervise and mentor production staff, team leaders, and shift supervisors.
• Conduct regular team meetings and training sessions on SOPs, safety, and hygiene.
• Lead performance evaluations, recruitment, and staff development initiatives.
Quality & Food Safety
• Implement and uphold strict quality control and HACCP procedures.
• Work closely with Quality Assurance to resolve issues and implement improvements.
• Ensure compliance with food safety regulations, GMP, and company standards.
Process Improvement
• Identify bottlenecks and implement continuous improvement strategies (Lean, 5S, Kaizen, etc.).
• Monitor KPIs such as yield, waste, downtime, and labour efficiency.
• Collaborate with maintenance and engineering to reduce equipment downtime.
Inventory & Cost Control
• Monitor raw material usage and minimize wastage.
• Manage production-related inventory, forecasting needs, and working with procurement.
• Control labour and production costs within budget.
Compliance & Reporting
• Maintain accurate production records, reports, and logs.
• Ensure compliance with WHS/OHS standards and conduct regular risk assessments.
• Participate in audits (internal, external, regulatory) and implement corrective actions.
Qualification & Experience
Education & Experience:
• Must possess a relevant Bachelor’s degree OR must have at least 5 years of relevant production management role preferably within the food or bakery manufacturing industry
Technical Skills:
• Strong understanding of baking processes, mass production, and industrial ovens/equipment.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and team management skills.
• Solid knowledge of HACCP, GMP, and food safety standards.
• Competence in production planning and performance metrics.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and production software systems (e.g., ERP, MRP).
Interpersonal Skills:
• Strong leadership and team management skills, with a proven ability to motivate and engage staff.
