The Role
We have exciting opportunities for experienced ICT Project Managers to drive the delivery of national security and intelligence capabilities for Defence.

As an Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) Project Manager in DDG, supporting the EL 2 Project Director, you will lead the delivery of cutting-edge technology and dive into the world of intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, and geospatial intelligence systems. Discover a high tech world where you will deliver some of the world’s most sophisticated systems, which are critical to Defence and modern warfighting capability.

Supporting the EL 2 Project Director, you will use your experience and knowledge of project management to lead teams delivering ISR or Geospatial Intelligence projects for the Australian Defence Force. You will assist the Project Director in contributing to significant technology changes for our Defence ICT capabilities and systems.

The roles require extensive stakeholder engagement and will suit candidates who possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Agreement (DEA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. About our Team
EL 1 Project Managers report to EL 2 Project Directors in the Integration and Automation Delivery Branch within the Defence Digital Group (DDG).

Working within DDG, you will be contributing your expertise to some of the most technically demanding and complex ICT transformation projects. We apply new ways of thinking and working that allow us to take advantage of faster, better and more efficient ways of delivering ICT services.

Supporting Defence in this technology-dominated era requires a more responsive and agile approach to strategy, processes, policies and people. The team works dynamically in a high tempo environment that brings rewarding challenges and a great sense of purpose.

Our Ideal Candidate
To be successful in this role, you will have knowledge of and experience in complex ICT project delivery, be able to work collaboratively across Defence, have strong leadership skills and exercise a significant degree of independence while performing with limited direction.

You will have highly developed communication and stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to lead geographically dispersed, multi-disciplinary teams in the delivery of Defence strategic outcomes.

As an EL 1 Project Manager, you will:

  • Lead a multi-disciplinary ICT project team comprising public servants, ADF members, contractors and vendor staff;
  • Manage all aspects of project activities including finance, contracts and procurement, technical, risk, schedule, workforce and industry relationships;
  • Evaluate project performance against critical success factors and leading indicators, recommending changes where necessary;
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders, business sponsors and service providers;
  • Proactively and autonomously manage multiple tasks, prioritise competing deadlines and deliver agreed business outcomes within a complex environment with minimal supervision;
  • Demonstrate highly developed written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to represent the project in high level committees and provide high quality and well-considered reports on project achievement; and
  • Represent the project and branch at relevant working groups or high-level meetings, and provide reports on project achievements.
