Great Barrier Reef and Marine Parks (GBR&MP) Region currently have an opportunity for a Ranger to join the team on a temporary basis.
As one of the six regions of the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service, the GBR&MP Region delivers conservation and management activities across land and sea including implementing the Reef Joint Field Management Program.
The OO4 Ranger role is focused on marine and island protected areas in the Whitsunday/Mackay Coast region of the Southern Great Barrier Reef. Key duties include maintaining infrastructure and walking tracks, ensuring compliance and enforcement, engaging with the community, and managing natural resources. This role involves significant time on vessels in open waters and collaboration with other agencies on marine zoning, park use, and species protection, while promoting conservation and environmental awareness.
Role focus:
- Carry out diverse park management tasks including infrastructure maintenance, fire, weed and pest control, cultural/natural resource management, and plant operation.
- Support planning and implementation of annual work programs, managing resources within budget constraints.
- Perform compliance and enforcement duties, supported investigations, and engaged with stakeholders and the public.
- Participate in emergency response, supervised staff and volunteers, handled admin tasks, and promoted inclusive practices for First Nations peoples.
To be considered you must hold the following qualifications:
- an unrestricted manual driver's licence
