Registered Nurse – Victorian Virtual Emergency Department (VVED)

The Role:

Exciting opportunities exist for experienced Registered Nurses to join the Victorian Virtual ED at Northern Health on a permanent part-time. This is an opportunity to be part of a dynamic team that flourishes on innovation and ideas.

The Victorian Virtual Emergency Department (VVED) is a 24-hour service providing video consultations to patients and Healthcare professionals within Victoria. The Virtual Registered Nurse is responsible for providing timely patient assessment and triage of adult and paediatric patients, and providing appropriate healthcare advice in line with the relevant scope of practise and initiate appropriate referral pathways.

The Registered Nurse works as part of a virtual multidisciplinary team, including clerical, pharmacy, nurse practitioners and medical clinicians.

The service operates 24 hours a day, 7 days per week.

Applicants must reside in Victoria.

The role can be performed onsite or from home post successful completion of initial on-site training. Onsite training will be conducted at Northern Health, Epping, Victoria. In-person training consists of a minimum two-day orientation and two supernumerary shifts at the commencement of your employment. Further onsite training may be required subject to individual’s abilities in collaboration with VVED Nursing Education.

Work from home set up must be supplied by the individual, and is subject to meeting IT requirements and approval of OHS and must include:

  • Minimum of 2 connected screens monitors
  • Reliable and fast internet access
  • Private and confidential work space
  • Access to make phone calls

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • A minimum of four years post registration experience as a Registered Nurse
  • Must have current or recent experience working in an acute nursing environment, such as Emergency, Intensive Care, Medical or Surgical
  • Current Emergency Department Triage experience is desirable
  • Demonstrated ability to independently undertake comprehensive and timely patient assessments (adult and paediatric)
  • Demonstrates advanced critical thinking skills to determine safe and accurate patient triage category and plan of care
  • Advanced IT skills
  • A Graduate Certificate in Clinical Specialty would be highly regarded but not essential
  • Must be able to work a rotating roster
  • Must be able to successfully complete training onsite in Epping, Victoria (a minimum of 4 days)
  • Permanent part-time must be able to commit to a minimum of 0.2EFT (16hr/fortnight)
