Job Advertisement: Full-Time Religious Assistant at Sikh Temple
Position: Full-Time Religious Worker
Location: Sikh Temple, Lynbrook, New Zealand (100 Great South Rd. Manurewa, Auckland, NZ)
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Religious Assistant to join our team at the Sikh Temple in Lynbrook. This is a full-time position with a minimum requirement of 38 hours of rostered work per week. The working hours vary each week based on the roster, but are not limited to the outlined times.
Key Responsibilities:
- Morning Prayers & Kirtan Services
- Preparing and conducting public worship services, including Asa Di Vaar Kirtan, Ardas, and providing explanations of Kirtan hymns.

Timing: 4:30 AM to 8:30 AM, Monday to Sunday

Hours: 4 hours per day

- Afternoon Prayers & Religious Services
- Preparing and conducting Sukhmani Sahib, Ardas, and providing explanations of the prayers.

Timing: 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, daily

Hours: 2 hours per day

- Evening Prayers & Kirtan Services
- Preparing and conducting Rehras Sahib, Ardas, and explaining the hymns.

Timing: 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM, Monday to Sunday

Hours: 3 hours per day

- Special Kirtan Darbar Services
- Conducting special Kirtan Darbar, Ardas, and explaining the religious hymns.

Timing: 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM, every Sunday

Hours: 3 hours per session

Resources Required: 2 team members (3 Optional)
- Premarital & Family Counseling
- Conducting counseling sessions, performing marriages, funerals, and memorial services according to Sikh traditions, civil law, and community needs.

Timing: Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM (or as per booked appointment)

Counseling Session: 1 hour

Marriage Ceremonies: 2 hours

- Religious Instruction & Community Outreach
- Conducting religious instruction classes, overseeing prayer groups, retreats, and seminars.
- Providing supervision and guidance during religious days of observance.

Hours: 3-4 hours per week

- Social & Welfare Activities
- Encouraging participation in community welfare projects and guiding the congregation in moral and ethical teachings of Sikhism.
- Visiting members at their homes, hospitals, and other institutions for religious counseling and support.
- Record Keeping
- Maintaining records of visits and ensuring adherence to rostered times in compliance with the temple's and civil law's requirements.
Candidate Requirements:
- Strong knowledge and practice of Sikhism, including the ability to explain religious hymns and prayers.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Compassionate and supportive nature to provide counseling and guidance to the congregation.
- Experience in conducting religious services, counseling, and teaching is highly desirable.
