Our cafes are a Melbourne staple when it comes to French quality products with a 30-year history around our beautiful cakes, scrumptious pastries and mouthwatering sandwiches and croquets.

Our company is growing and with it comes a new opportunity for an experienced Retail Operations Manager.

Purpose

The key purpose of the Retail Operations Manager is to drive the success of the retail network and ensure all stores successfully achieve their store contribution. Your role supports Area and Store Managers to achieve all agreed company targets and efficiencies in the areas of waste, labour, customer satisfaction and sales. You are also the champion for leadership and team development and succession planning.

You will look for opportunities to improve how we operate and create new policies and procedures to achieve efficiencies and same store standards across the network.

The role supports our network of 18 cafes and works closely with other parts of the business such as Production, Finance, Quality, HR, Sales etc.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

Retail Performance:

  • Lead and develop Area and Store Managers and store teams, ensuring KPI achievement and exceptional customer service.

  • Oversee store performance, including recruitment, training, and day-to-day operations, ensuring cleanliness, leave management, and staff efficiency.

  • Develop and implement short and long-term strategies to increase customer satisfaction, retention, and sales growth.

  • Regularly review performance through weekly, monthly, and quarterly reviews and reporting with the cafe leadership teams.

Retail Operations:

  • Own the retail P&L, budgeting, and cost-saving strategies, ensuring efficient store operations across the network leveraging customer insights and market trends to inform decision making.

  • Oversee store maintenance, and consumables, ensuring all operational requirements are met.

  • Create and implement best practice process guides and policies, including training materials.

  • Support Area and Store managers with rostering, budgets, cost control to achieve agreed KPIs.

Communications:

  • Ensuring timely and accurate store communications.

  • Address cafe operational queries promptly, providing necessary support to stores.

Collaboration and Teamwork:

  • Foster collaboration between Area and store teams, ensuring standardisation of approaches.

  • Lead training and development efforts, provide feedback, and support team growth including creating succession plans for leadership roles.

  • Promote a culture of teamwork, unity, and continuous improvement, celebrating the team's successes.

Attributes and experience:

  • Demonstrated leadership skills to inspire, empower, and develop teams.

  • 7-10 years in retail, with expertise in operations, driving growth while ensuring team member satisfaction

  • Adaptable and resilient, thriving in fast-paced environments, handling setbacks with positivity

  • Strong business knowledge, including P&L, budgets, sales forecasts, and retail strategy, with a deep understanding of Melbourne's hospitality market

  • Exceptional communicator and collaborator, with strong analytical skills and the ability to lead change and manage people effectively

  • Ensure the delivery of the highest standard in customer experience across our cafes

  • Weekend and public holiday work will be required
