Job Description (OSCA)

Scaffolders erect and dismantle scaffolding to provide safe work platforms on construction, industrial, and temporary structures such as staging and seating. Their main tasks include fitting and bolting tubes, braces, and components to form stable scaffold bases, lifting and positioning sections, and installing safety features such as guard rails, guy wires, ropes, clamps, planks, and safety nets. Scaffolders also dismantle and remove scaffolding once work is complete, ensuring safety and efficiency on-site.

Qualifications and Licensing Requirements

  • AQF Certificate II or III in Construction, Scaffolding, or an equivalent qualification.
  • A minimum of one year of full-time relevant experience may substitute for the formal qualification listed above.
  • White Card – Construction Induction (Occupational Health and Safety).
  • High Risk Work Licence – Scaffolding (Basic, Intermediate, or Advanced, depending on role requirements).
  • Work Safely at Heights certification.
  • Enter and Work in Confined Spaces certification.
  • Valid Driver’s Licence (manual transmission preferred).

Key Responsibilities

  • Erect, modify, and dismantle scaffolding systems in accordance with project specifications, site requirements, and Australian safety standards.
  • Fit, bolt, and secure scaffolding components including tubes, support braces, planks, clamps, guardrails, ladders, and base structures to ensure safe and stable access platforms.
  • Lift, position, and assemble scaffold sections, including the installation of guardrails, toe boards, guy wires, ropes, and safety nets as required by the environment.
  • Interpret plans, drawings, and verbal instructions to determine scaffold requirements and make informed setup decisions for each worksite.
  • Select, inspect, and prepare scaffolding materials and tools, ensuring all components meet project and safety standards.
  • Conduct regular inspections of scaffold structures and equipment, identifying and reporting any hazards, defects, or non-compliance issues.
  • Follow all workplace health and safety procedures, including Safe Work Method Statements, Job Hazard Analyses, risk assessments, and fall protection protocols.
  • Collaborate with supervisors, contractors, and trades, adapting scaffolding services to evolving project needs and schedules.
  • Assist with yard and site logistics, including loading/unloading gear, cleaning and maintaining equipment, and keeping work areas organised.
  • Promote a culture of safety, professionalism, and teamwork, providing support to less experienced team members and upholding NT Scaffolds’ values on every job.

Role Requirements

  • Minimum of one year of full-time equivalent experience in scaffolding or construction-related work.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety protocols and effective teamwork.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to follow instructions accurately.
  • Physically fit and capable of handling materials and working at heights in warm outdoor conditions.
  • Able to work both independently and under supervision, depending on project needs.
  • Willing to undergo a pre-employment medical assessment and provide a police clearance, if required.
  • Able to provide verifiable work references.

Work Includes

  • Assisting with inventory management and conducting equipment stocktakes.
  • Preparing scaffolding materials and components for deployment to job sites.
  • Collaborating with team leaders to plan, execute, and complete scaffolding projects.
  • Occasional travel to support projects located outside the Darwin region.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $75,000.00 – $85,000.00 per year

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Monday to Friday
  • Weekend availability
