Overview

The Scientist will conduct research & development projects, including execution of experiments, interpretation of data and writing up of results, under supervision of the Senior Scientist. The Scientist will also support quality control activities as part of the manufacture of products and associated testing of materials. This includes quality activities through testing products across all stages of the production lifecycle and providing administrative and documentation assistance. 

Skills or Experience Required 

  • Bachelors of Science degree
  • At least one year’s full-time equivalent experience working in a laboratory setting in a regulated industry (medical devices, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, food, etc.).
  • Exceptional documentation skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management and communication skills.
  • Ability to be flexible and prioritise.
  • Working productively within a team is critical.
  • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practise and Good Laboratory Practise is highly regarded.
  • Domain expertise in analytical approaches including HPLC, SDS-PAGE, spectrophotometry (visible, UV, and fluorescence), protein-mineral binding kinetics, research design and analysis, all within a regulated environment.
  • Independently maintain and advance collaborative relationships with researchers and stakeholders associated with the laboratory’s projects and research.

Tasks:

  • Design and conduct experiments for the detection of decay on teeth or representative surfaces, making observations and measurements, researching information, analysing data, preparing reports and contributing to scientific research papers, if required.
  • Studying the forms and structures of human teeth and bovine slabs by systematic observation and microscopic examination.
  • Investigating chemical formulations and optimum protein concentrations for product manufacturing.
  • Perform routine calibration, maintenance and basic troubleshooting on laboratory equipment.
  • Ensure all duties are carried out according to standard operating procedures, health and safety requirements and laboratory policies.
  • Work in a team environment with respect for other members of the team to achieve service goals.
  • Supervisory responsibilities of new staff including lab inductions and ensuring high standards and protocols are maintained.
  • Perform rigorous testing and validation of new processes to meet regulatory and quality control standards.
  • Identify opportunities for process and product development and implement solutions to enhance productivity, reduce waste, and optimise resource utilisation.
  • Stay up to date with the latest innovations in products and raw materials. 
  • Initiate change controls and deviations when required.
  • Provide manufacturing and upscale assistance and support.
