Reporting to the Hosting Team lead, the Senior Cloud Engineer is responsible for maintaining the majority of the department’s virtual servers in both internal and external environments. 

The key duties of the position include:

Responsibilities of the EL1 may include:

  • Maintaining AWS and VMWare based cloud servers:
    • Troubleshooting failures.
    • Applying patches and upgrades.
    • Identifying opportunities for optimisation.
  • Provide advice on upcoming opportunities/changes in the industry.
  • Mentor and train junior staff members.
  • Manage competing priorities to focus on completing the most critical work first such as Production system outages. Escalate issues to senior management if required, for example, Emergency Change Requests.
  • Resolve complex issues related to Cloud Installations. Raise and manage Technical Support cases where vendor assistance is necessary. 
  • Recommend and implement appropriate solutions and enhancements to ensure improvements in system security, reliability, and performance.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders, to identify opportunities, achieve outcomes and facilitate cooperation.
  • Represent team at meetings and conferences.
  • Conduct daily health checks.
  • Project management for upgrade and installations, management of team activities.
Eligibility

Please note, under section 22(8) of the Public Service Act 1999, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the APS unless the Agency delegate has agreed, in writing.

This is a designated security assessed position. The successful candidate will have the ability to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting 1 security clearance. 

This selection process may be used to establish a merit pool. The pool might be accessed to fill ongoing and non-ongoing vacancies for similar roles in the Department over the next 18 months.
