Senior Data Engineer – 6-Month Contract Sydney

We’re working with a leading financial services client who is seeking a Senior Data Engineer for an initial 6-month daily rate contract based in Sydney. This is a high-impact role focused on building and optimising data infrastructure to support critical analytics and regulatory reporting across the business.
The Role:
As a Senior Data Engineer, you'll be embedded within a high-performing data team, working on scalable solutions that power decision-making, risk analysis, and customer insights. You’ll partner closely with stakeholders across finance, risk, and compliance to deliver trusted, well-governed data pipelines.
Tech Environment:

• Cloud: AWS or Azure
• Data Tools: Spark, Airflow, dbt, Kafka
• Languages: Python, SQL
• Warehousing: Snowflake, Redshift, or BigQuery
• CI/CD and Infrastructure-as-Code tools

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, build, and maintain secure and scalable data pipelines
• Support data integration from core banking and financial systems
• Optimise existing pipelines for performance, quality, and reliability
• Collaborate with data analysts, data scientists, and business stakeholders
• Ensure alignment with data governance, privacy, and compliance requirements

What We’re Looking For:

• 5+ years of data engineering experience, ideally in banking or financial services
• Strong SQL and Python skills, with a background in distributed data processing
• Hands-on experience with cloud data platforms and modern data stacks
• Familiarity with regulatory data and reporting requirements is a plus
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills

Location:

• Sydney-based candidates preferred (Hybrid or On-site depending on team needs)

Contract Details:

• 6-month daily rate contract
• Competitive daily rate, commensurate with experience
