Sequana is one of the fastest-growing & independent water, energy, and environment-focused infrastructure advisory firms in Australia with a growing International presence. With offices in Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane, we work with both the private sector and government organisations to break the mould and redefine the future of Australia’s major water, environment and energy projects. We are committed to delivering exceptional results for our clients throughout all stages of a project and beyond.

The newly created Senior Manager, PMO position is a pivotal role in supporting the successful delivery of large and complex water infrastructure projects across our major projects portfolio. This position is responsible for establishing and overseeing fit-for-purpose project delivery systems, governance, and reporting processes. In some cases, this will involve working within well-defined client project frameworks; in others, the PMO Lead will be required to set up new project-specific systems and processes from the ground up to enable disciplined delivery.

This role is hands-on and strategic, balancing oversight and assurance with practical support for project teams, and acting as the connective tissue between project delivery and executive reporting.

What you do

  • Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of PMO systems, frameworks, and tools for water infrastructure projects.

  • Ensure alignment with client-specific project management processes and procedures where they are in place.

  • Where client frameworks do not exist or are incomplete, design and implement new systems and controls to support effective project setup, delivery, governance, and reporting.

  • Provide assurance and oversight across the major projects portfolio, including risk management, program tracking, and milestone delivery.

  • Support project directors and teams with tools, guidance, coaching, and delivery insights to promote consistency and quality.

  • Coordinate regular reporting cycles including dashboards, executive summaries, project status updates, and financial tracking.

  • Facilitate project start-up processes and close-out activities to capture lessons learned and drive continuous improvement.

  • Support project planning, resourcing, and pipeline monitoring in collaboration with business leads.

  • Promote strong documentation, change control, and data integrity practices across the portfolio.

  • Liaise with client representatives to ensure transparency, responsiveness, and alignment on delivery expectations.

Who you are

Candidates should possess:

  • Qualifications in project management, engineering, construction management or a related field.

  • Minimum 10 years of industry experience with demonstrated experience in a senior PMO, project controls, or project delivery support role, ideally in the water or infrastructure sectors.

  • Strong knowledge of project and program management principles (e.g. PMBOK, Prince2, Gateway), with the ability to adapt these to suit varying project contexts.

  • Proven capability in designing and implementing project management systems, especially in environments with limited pre-existing frameworks.

  • Experience working within government or utility client project management processes is highly desirable.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with technical teams, delivery leads, and client representatives.

  • Strong proficiency in project planning, performance tracking, and reporting tools (e.g. MS Project, Power BI, SharePoint).
