About the role: 

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Policy Advisor to join the Funding and Reform policy team. The successful candidate will work closely with members and stakeholders to develop policy positions and support the delivery of quality aged care services across Australia. This role will represent the aged care sector by engaging with the Australian Government and stakeholders, analysing and quantifying policy proposals, and developing submissions. 

Key responsibilities will include: 

  • Contributing to Ageing Australia's policy activities and program of works, including development of specialist functions.  

  • Preparing high-quality written advice in the form of reports, briefs, policy discussion papers, or submissions. This advice will incorporate member input and be informed by quantitative analysis. 

  • Analysing and interpret policy proposals and research findings regarding their relevance to Ageing Australia's members.  

  • Engaging with a wide group of stakeholders to discuss their needs relative to policy or legislative changes. 

  • Fostering positive relationships and regularly meet with internal and key political advisors, state and local government officers, members, and other stakeholders. 

  • Representing the interests of members in engaging with government on operational, legislative, regulatory, and practice reforms.  

  • Representing Ageing Australia in relevant forums, such as committees, events, and working groups. 

  • Developing and manage the successful delivery of relevant externally funded projects as required. 

About you: 

To be successful in this role you will have:  

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in economics, finance or commerce, law or public policy would be considered highly desirable. 

  • An understanding of aged care policy, health policy and/or disability policy, and current issues impacting the aged care industry, or significant transferable public policy experience.   

  • Knowledge of Australian political system and its policy processes.   

  • Excellent research, analytical and writing skills with demonstrated ability to draft concise policy briefings and submissions.  

  • The ability to interpret and analyse complex material, such as legislation and quantitative data. Demonstrated ability to communicate the key messages arising from complex quantitative information to a variety of audiences.   

  • Experience in analysing the merit of public policy proposals in government, independent authorities, think tanks, health or aged care related organisations, or membership organisations.  

  • Proficiency in quantitative skills (such as statistics, econometrics) and various modelling techniques (such as simulation, economic analysis).   

  • Confident communication style and demonstrated experience in stakeholder consultation.   

  • Strong work ethic and work history that would evidence commitment to Ageing Australia values and a genuine passion for aged care.
