About the role

The Social Inclusion Officer is imperative to the successful operation of the uni 2 beyond program by providing comprehensive support to students in achieving their educational and social goals. This includes conducting one-on-one lessons, assisting with university class engagement, and facilitating mentor introductions. Additionally, the role involves supporting the uni 2 beyond coordinator in program management, recruiting volunteers, and maintaining accurate administrative records.

Hours of work are primarily during the day but may require some evenings & do require some flexibility.

In this role, you will:

  • Deliver weekly person-centred one-on-one sessions, including goal setting, academic support, and social engagement.

  • Facilitate student participation in university classes and help foster social connections.

  • Support the initiation and ongoing development of student-mentor relationships.

  • Contribute to program planning, volunteer recruitment, mentor training, and event coordination.

  • Collaborate with university staff, departments, and inclusion initiatives to enhance student participation.

  • Maintain accurate records, manage NDIS billing, and stay updated on inclusion policies.

  • Prepare timely reports for the program coordinator, funder, and CEO.

  • Promote inclusive practices and ethically advocate for the program across the university and broader community.

  • Work flexibly and collaboratively with the Uni 2 Beyond and CDS teams, supporting the overall vision and mission.

Essential criteria

  • Bachelor's degree in disability / Social Science or equivalent

  • NDIS worker screening check

  • Working with children check

  • Experience in working and supporting people with intellectual disability

  • Experience of the higher education sector

  • Ability to build strong relationships with students, mentors, and colleagues.

  • Clear and effective verbal and written communication.

  • Strong ability to manage multiple tasks and keep accurate records.

  • Understanding and patience to support students with diverse needs and backgrounds.

  • Ability to address challenges and find effective solutions to support student success.

  • Flexibility to adjust to changing needs and circumstances within the program.

  • Ability to work well within a team, supporting colleagues and contributing to program improvements.

  • Ability to promote inclusive practices and advocate for the needs of students within the program and the broader university community.

Desirable criteria

  • First aid certificate

  • Training in easy read translation

  • Experience in advocating for the rights of people with disability
