Overview:

At VPT Balgowlah, our friendly and motivated staff specialise in exercise intervention for people with a wide range of health issues (both at risk of developing and with pre-existing medical conditions and injuries).

As a result of our ongoing operations, we currently face the need for an experienced Exercise/Sports Scientist to join our professional team with an immediate start. This position is a full-time ongoing position, working 38 hours per week based in Balgowlah NSW.

 

Main Tasks:

-          Analyse clients’ fitness in order to help them improve their health or maintain good health.

-          Conduct assessments specific to an athlete's sport to determine how to improve sporting performance.

-          Analyse a clients’ medical history to assess their risk during exercise and to determine the best possible exercise and fitness regimen for the patient.

-          Evaluate clients’ cardiovascular function and metabolism using fitness and stress tests, and other evaluation tools.

-          Conduct research, make observations and interpret data in relation to sporting performances, and communicate findings to athletes and other support staff.

-          Design fitness plan for physical and motor rehabilitation in special groups (cardiac, obese, hypertensive, elderly, and others).

-          Develop individualized exercise prescriptions to increase physical fitness, strength, endurance, and flexibility.

-          Devise treatment and exercise programs that support athletes' preparation and recovery, and help them return to training or competition.

-          Refer clients to sports medicine physicians and other health professionals such as physiotherapists, dietitians, sports psychologists and podiatrists when required as part of treatment.

-          Design customized exercise programs and nutritional program to meet health care needs and athletic performance goals.

-          Maintain knowledge in the latest training methodologies, diets and supplements available to put in to practice.

-          Consultancy and monitoring of the clients’ activities and results.

 

Required/Relevant Qualifications & Work Experience:

-        Relevant bachelor’s degree, and a minimum of 1 year’ full time work experience in the industry within the 5 years; OR 5 years’ work experience in the industry to substitute the formal qualification.

 

Required/Relevant Skills & Knowledge:

-        Good understanding of Exercise/Sport Science;

-        Excellent communication skills;

-        Good interpersonal skills.

-        Physical fitness;

-        Able to form good relationships with people of diverse backgrounds;

-        Able to deal sensitively with injured clients; and

-        Encouraging and motivating.

Annual salary will be between $73,150.00 to $80,000.00 (plus superannuation) depending on level of experience.
